02:18 pm - Interesting Times
Well, last week was full of surprises.

Vic lost her Veterinary gig in town.  That's a big bummer.  She had agreed to quit working in Richmond to stay in C-ville with a new clinic and charge them less.  We knew it was going to be rough for a bit, but they aren't making enough money and while the head Vet said they might have her come back in the spring, there were an awful lot of ifs and maybes in that conversation, so I'm not holding my breath.  So, she's trying to make this into a positive and work more on her photography.

One of the guys above me (not in my direct chain, but one of the head guys on my project) was fired last week.  This was sudden and put the whole job thing in an uproar.  No idea yet how it will all turn out.  At this point, I will certainly end up picking up some of the pieces of his stuff.  On the upside, my boss has mentioned that me and another guy might get functionally promoted (which would entail a raise) thrown into the mix.  While a raise would be good, I'm not sure how much more stuff i want to be responsible for.  And I probably couldn't work from home as much.  Sigh.  I really like working from home.

Heck, I was really beginning to look for another job in earnest.

Interesting times, indeed.

09:00 pm - A cold, cold weekend
Vic and I did an art show in Richmond this weekend, and boy was it cold.  Live in Richmond and didn't know about the art show? That's okay, neither did anyone else.

The cold was pretty bad with a wind chill of about 40 most of the time.  At one point on Saturday, it started lightly raining and it looked grim for the home team... luckily, the rain went away, but left the wind.  No wind break any where to be had, and our tent faced opened right into the prevailing breeze.  Joy.

The percentage of buyers to lookers was pretty damn good.  And if there had been hordes of people, it would've been a great show.  Unfortunately, the advertising budget was pretty skimpy and there was almost nobody out there.  Not that I blame them.  In this weather, I'd stay in, too.

We were gonna hook up with Halowenslut for dinner Saturday and stay in Richmond, but the cold did us in, so we grabbed dinner and beat feet back to the house, where Vic promptly drew a hot bath and sucked all the heat out of the water.  Today wasn't as bad because
1 - the show was only from 12-5 and got cut short at 4 by the show promoters due to low turnout and
2 - we brought our more serious cold weather stuff out.

And now for the good stuff.  Vic won the First place for Photography! w00t!  Very cool!  In fact, the head judge came by after all the judging was over and bought a couple of small prints!  That was a nice boost to flagging spirits.

Why is it that the time when you mess up the most is on the piece that you don't have enough spare material to make another one?

08:57 pm - Soggy weekend
Well, the art show this weekend was middling on Saturday and rained out on Sunday.  Gotta love that.  The Saturday night weather dude said the bad stormy stuff would hit the Norfolk area about 5am and would be mostly gone by noon.  Unfortunately, he got it wrong by about 6 hours.  It started about 11am, just enough to get everything nice and wet before they cancelled Sunday's show.  I really hate packing out in the rain.  The artwork is just so damn delicate.

Of course, we got soaked.  Luckily, we had changes of clothes.  It would really have sucked driving home with a wet butt.  Helpful note - a longer rain jacket would be a really good idea.

The best part of the weekend was that we got to hang with Thor and his people F&S.  That was very cool.  Hadn't seen them or the new house yet.  Most excellent Sushi was had and good conversation.  And doggie flatulence.  Well, you take the good with the bad.

03:45 pm - Happy Days
It's the small things that make your day brighter sometimes. Our admin came back today from maternity leave. There was much rejoicing. I admit not that I like her that much (she's cool and a good admin) but that while she was out, I was stuck approving timesheets. You would think a bunch of programmers could figure out how to code in their timesheets correctly.

Evidently not.

02:25 pm - The monday of all mondays
Ugh. I think my vacation was a bit too successful. No way in hell I was ready for work this morning.

5 am came WAY too early.

On the bright side, looks like ice tonight and tomorrow. Guess I'll have to work from home. What a pity.
